CHECK IN AND PICK UP PROCESS

On day 1 just look for the black and blue tent, where we’ll be ready to sign you in.

Parents/guardians, feel free to drop riders off with us and come back when they’re finished. No need to hang around unless you’d like to be around to make them feel at ease as they get acquainted with their coaches and other riders.

CoachingPARENT HELPERS WANTED

If anybody would like to join in on the sessions, see what goes on, learn some skills, and get some exercise in, we’d love to have you along as a helper in exchange for full credit for your child’s fees. Parent helpers with Working With Children clearance (and ideally first aid training) are needed just to help round up riders, trail groups to make sure nobody is left behind, and generally offer support along the way. You don’t actually have to offer any coaching, but a riding experience and knowledge of the trails are necessary.

Fruit snacks

HEALTHY FUEL

To keep the riders energised, happy and safe we’ll be providing fruit snacks part way through each session. Please ensure they bring their own snacks in case they have special preferences, but there will be plenty of fruit to go around. As well as fruit, we sometimes have gummy snakes on hand if riders are fading. Please let us know if you prefer that your child doesn’t receive any.

HelmetWHAT TO TAKE

We recommend you bring the following to all sessions:

  • A proper mountain bike (suitable for off-road use) in good working order, with all bolts tightened and the frame being the right size for the rider.
  • The key is to have fat tyres with knobbly rubber tread on them, not smooth/slick tyres that are narrow.
  • Tyres and suspension should be pumped up to recommended pressures. Tyres should be firm, but supple (not rock hard).
  • Light compact snacks and water bottle to keep you going – at least half a litre of water per hour.
  • Australian Standards approved helmet. Correctly fitted and properly fastened, with the front down over most of the forehead.
  • Sunscreen and appropriate cycling clothing, including protective eye-wear and cycling gloves.
  • Spare tube if possible (we carry some spares, pumps and tools).
  • Warm clothing if it’s cold. Better to over-dress than under-dress. We can carry/store extra clothing.
  • A rain jacket if it looks like it might rain.
  • An open mind ready to learn and have heaps of fun!

*We’ll do bike and equipment checks before each session, teaching riders about the basics. But we’ll be unable to carry out major repairs.

HELP WITH CHOOSING KIDS BIKES AND SETTING THEM UP

Check out this article we wrote about choosing a bike and setting kids up bikes:

Rain check

WHAT IF IT RAINS?

We’ll contact you if it looks like it might rain. We normally run sessions if it’s only raining lightly and it isn’t too cold. But if rain gets heavy and it’s really cold we’ll usually postpone sessions. The aim is to keep it enjoyable for the riders, but without trashing bikes or trails.

If we cancel any sessions due to bad conditions you’ll receive a full credits for those sessions, including any card fees. Feel free to email us if conditions look questionable.

CoachOUR COACHES

We’re all fully accredited, qualified and highly experienced coaches, all with first aid training, mechanical knowledge and Working With Children clearance. We’re also obsessed with bike handling technique and have combined decades of international level competition experience with formulation of proven methods that we can pass on to riders of any level. We don’t believe in ‘one size fits all’ coaching and we always do our best to involve riders in the development process.
